  7. Eddie I have a question I cant seem to get the same answer from many different builders. What is the correct "layering" for insulation and framing? I cant seem to get a common answer on where to put the vapor barrier (if at all), what type of insulation I should use for my basement walls. My house was built in the 50's, cinder block foundation, and i plan to have a water system track installed before i finish.

  9. Beautiful work. Only one bit of advice learned the hard way. When you build a closet to hide water pipes, make sure they don't interfere with the heating. I made this mistake and on a really cold day, the pipe burst. The solution was to use a louvered door that let the warm air in to prevent freezing.

  20. Any use if Pocket or Barn doors? When Basement HVAC is upgraded why not seal all HVAC ducts lines to LEED standard. Residential standard for HVAC has 20% leakage when only screwing the ducts together!

  21. My ceiling is only 7' to the floor joists, so would you still recommend soffits for the ductwork? A soffit would mean a 6' ceiling in those areas. Also, doesn't finishing the ceiling trap the warm air in the basement rather than sending it to the floor above?

  32. I have a very similar stairwell going into my basement (with 9 ft ceilings). The stairwell has a 90 turn with a landing and the basement ceiling ends about about 1/3 of the way up. I don't have an exterior stairwell going into the basement. Am I going to be able to get 9' sheetrock and 9' 2×4's down those stairs and around that turn without an exterior access?
