Extreme Room Makeover | Room Tour 2018

I’m super excited to share today’s video with you as it’s the culmination of weeks of work to turn our unused dining room into a fab new living space. As much as I’d love to sit down at the dining table each night as a family, our busy schedules mean this rarely happens. Instead we all often eat when on the run at the kitchen bench. So I decided to take the plunge and turn our dining room into another lounge room. I’ve wanted to do this for a long time but the main reason I haven’t is because I really didn’t like the 10-year-old floorboards in that room. They were never going to wear out because they were great quality but my style has changed significantly over the years and I really wanted lighter flooring with little to no detailing. The old knotty look was a shabby chic home decor phase I went through around the time we had these floors installed. Not long after and my interior design aesthetic had changed and I found myself craving light, bright and simple floors. I had considered painting the floor but had visions of it going horribly wrong, leaving me worse of than when I started.

So this year I decided to bite the bullet and go for it and I wanted to share the process and the finished result with you too. As I mentioned in the video I didn’t want to spend a fortune on the furniture in case I changed my mind and decided to reinstate our dining table but decided to invest in quality flooring because I know it will last the distance no matter what I do with this room. I also think the flooring is the part of the makeover that has truly had the biggest impact. New flooring can totally transform a room – even my husband was stunned at the massive difference it made.

So I really hope you enjoy this room makeover and please let me know if you do because I’m about to makeover on my son’s bedroom and I’ll video the process if you’d like to see that too.

Anyway, thanks so much for watching.

  1. I would have kept the warm looking flooring but other than that it looks amazing to me 🙂 Good job!

  5. I loved the dining room furniture pieces, but hey, if they are not working for you, changing it up was the best thing to do! The new room is well done. The family can hangout while someone is in the kitchen. Great for having guests over as well. I like this concept very much.
