Right here I instal our hardwood stairs applying my handmade nose treading from section 1, out of similar wood for the floor.

  4. I have thick oak stairway with spindles built in 1983. The guy who built it did not sand the risers at all, only the treads, and you can clearly see the mill marks after it was stained and polyed. Is it best that I remove the whole thing and sand everything, and restain? Secondly, he never put a stringer against the wall, just butted the treads and risers against the drywall. I hate this whole setup. How do I get the stringer in place knowing it would be difficult to scribe it in since the treads are bullnosed? Just start over pull all the wood and resand everything?

  13. Nice job and thanks for taking the time to post.  Can I ask do you have a recommendation for the stapler?  Do you have any trouble driving that staple into the tongue of the hardwood?–thanks
