This venture took TIME and Patience. It took me about a overall of 4 months to full it. I did lots of prior analysis and paint screening about the products and procedure I need to use to paint my cupboards. You will come across tons of posts on Pinterest with titles such as “PAINT YOUR Cabinets Devoid of SANDING” or “NO PRIMING Wanted.” But the reality is, if you want a superior complete, suitable adherence, and longevity, priming and at the very least some sanding are definitely very important. I examined out each chalk and milk paints on my cupboards, and the protection was not that excellent because the surfaces were being so darkish. Applying possibly one particular of the solutions would have charge me significantly much more in price tag and not help you save me much on time.

Everybody has different experiences and opinions, but this is what I have identified and the procedure that worked for me!

————————————————————-

Cupboard PREP Do the job
Evenly sanded on within of cupboards with sanding sponges
Cleaned all surfaces with a microfiber fabric and Krud Kutter – this things functions miracles.

————————————————————-

Cabinet PRIMING
Put down 3 coats of Gripper Primer by Glidden applying a little foam roller and foam brushes for corners.

Sanded before top coat with an orbital disk sander, 220 grit – I ordered my sander particularly for this task and I have used it SO A great deal given that. I can’t consider I lived without it.

————————————————————-

Cabinet Top rated COAT
Set down 2 coats of Benjamin Moore Progress in satin end, untinted. This is the some of the most effective paint I’ve ever labored with and can not recommend it adequate for portray cupboards.

————————————————————-

Cupboard Components
Since I was not able to find substitute handles that healthy correctly, I filled earlier holes with wood filler and used pulls as a substitute.

Amazon is BY Significantly the finest bang for your buck as far as cabinet hardware goes.

My primary hinges have been in terrible shape, but they had been a very outdated design and style that is discontinued, so I purchased alternative ones from a specialty retailer. They only arrived in an antiqued brass shade, so I spray painted them. The paint adhered nicely and gave an alright finish, but I have had some scraping and chipping from the friction. I would not advise spray portray hinges if you can keep away from it.

————————————————————-

Walls & TRIM
All partitions were patched from undesirable cracks and hurt, then painted with Behr’s Marquee Eggshell in Wheat Bread.
All new and outdated trim perform was caulked, primed with Glidden Gripper if new, and presented 2-3 coats of Behr’s Quality Plus Extremely Semi Gloss Enamel, untinted.

FLOORING
Past flooring was a glued on vinyl tile. We chose to tear out ahead of putting in new flooring mainly because it was in poor and uneven situation.
New flooring is a plank vinyl.
All the things I read about plank vinyl floors is that it can be put in correct over a subfloor. In my case, I should really have laid down an underlayment (I claimed subfloor in the online video, which is incorrect). I consider it would have created a superior ultimate outcome.
I have combined inner thoughts about this merchandise. It did not reduce quickly with a carpet knife, as indicated in the directions, and it has currently scuffed and marked.

  1. Kitchen looks great😊 BUT when doing a DIY project in an older home, Plz be aware of the possibilities of the older, hazardous materials that were used in construction. It wldve been much safer to leave the tiles undisturbed.
Even the blk glue contains asbestos😷☠

  10. Did you check the tiles didn't contain asbestos? Not sure if that was a commonly used material there but I bought a 50s house in the UK and under every carpet was what I think was asbestos tile.

  37. I kept thinking those cabinet doors w/ grooves would've looked so much better w/ black accessories…would've taken you a bit into a farmhouse/rustic look, so maybe you didn't want that…but I see some wire shelves & hanging pots & a bit more rustic looking cook top and w/ the ''wood'' floor and the bench by the door…I think it could've worked, and w/ the new appliances, it wouldn't have been too rustic. Looks good anyway, BIG DIFFERENCE! Congrats on the work!

The top of my cabinets are going to be white so thank you for sharing. I wasn't planning on painting the inside of my cabinets but this is making me want to. They look so good with the inside painted.
