I have these same cabinets in a home we just bought. Thank you for posting. I have heard pros and cons for painting kitchen cabinets with Chalk paint. I have used in the past on furniture and loved it. But not kitchen cabinets. Cons were: leaves brush strokes…it's hard to hide areas where the hardware used to be even though it has been filled in…can't mix custom colors…and seems to gob in certain areas. I didn't have a problem when I did furniture but this also wasn't a large project and didn't have every day use… thank you… Great video
I would add the water based flat top coat on top of the chalk paint. Add 3 layers of of the top coat with light sanding in between layers with 400 grid sanding blocks. The result would be so much better. When I did that, the finish almost look sprayed on with just the right amount of sheen.
I have Particle board cabinets and they are peeling would it effect the paint if i did have to sand it , also if so what grain of sandpaper do you recommend ?
These are not laminate. Maybe laminated in the true sense of the word's definition. Which would be any covering affixed to the surface. Either way the prep work takes more than shown here.
Before you paint laminates or plastics just paint them… with PVA wood glue…then the paint literally just sticks to it ! ( and it's dirt cheap to do !).
I just did two bathroom cabinets yesterday by myself within a few hours! It turned out amazing! Definitely do lighter coats so the finish looks smooth! Really would reccomend the Amy Howard paints to anyone looking to quickly and cheaply refresh their cabinets! You just need painters tape and a brush. π
I am not familiar with this paint brand. Has it been tested that after 5 years of this paint and sealer wax that it holds up well to chips etc especially the drawers and cabinets you use daily?
This just saved my life. I want to get new ones but not for the price. Thank you for sharing this video. Next project for me. Then and that was a wonderful color compared to the brown cause itβs killing me slowly over here.π‘π‘π‘π‘ππππππ
This guy doesn't know what he's doing. You need to do a much better job of cleaning before you paint cabinets, especially kitchen cabinets. Helpful tips:when using any kind of chalk paint, always shake &/or stir paint thoroughly before and in between coats & slightly dampen your brush or roller before use. Chalk paint dries incredibly fast so in between paint coats ALWAYS store your brush or roller in an air tight plastic bag to keep the paint from drying out and clumping on it. The first coat should be light and thin…wait 15mins to 1/2 hr for it to dry completely then apply second coat. I use a water filled spray bottle to mist my brush or roller when applying the second coat Lastly, YOU MUST put on a clear hard protective coat after paint is dried to seal it. My favorite and the best on the market is "Gator Hide" from Dixie Belle paint company. Dixie Belle makes awesome paint as well. Good luck
Omg I needed to see this ! I have those same cabinets and was wondering if it was possible to paint them. I canβt wait to start painting then ! Thanks for sharing ππΌβΊοΈ
Way too much paint. First coat should be super thin. You are rushing into trying to get a prefect finish in the first coat in this video. Anyone watching do not copy this technique.
I am planning on painting my bathroom cabinets with this chalk paint. Would I need to use a certain sealer of some sort since it gets steamy in there??
HI, I would like to keep the original color of my cabinets just like you show in this video. How can I refinish my kitchen laminate cabinets keeping the same finish as original. Thanks.
I cant find the color "oyster pearl" that you say you are using, anywhere. It's not on Amy Howard website or Ace Hardware website. It's nowhere on google even. Help please!
